People we can often help
Most of the people we work with best were sent to us by someone who knew them well and recognized the situation. If one of these sounds like you, or like someone you know, we would be glad to talk.
Does one of these sound like you?
-
The professional whose equity pay got complicated
Your employer pays part of your compensation in restricted stock units (RSUs), stock options, or an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP). Every vesting date and every sale adds a decision, and the withholding your employer takes is often not the tax you owe. General advice runs out fast here, because the questions are about timing and the alternative minimum tax in your specific year.
What that usually involves. Withholding that falls short at vesting, the alternative minimum tax on incentive stock options, the cost basis on your broker's Form 1099-B, and which state taxes an award when you have moved. Personal advisory is where this starts.
-
The investor building a rental portfolio
You own one rental or several, and you are adding to them. Each property carries its own depreciation schedule, its own expenses, and its own answer at sale. Lumping them together at year end costs money. We have done this work for years, and it is worth more as the portfolio grows.
What that usually involves. Depreciation, and when a cost segregation study is worth it, the passive-loss rules, short-term rentals, the tax side of a like-kind (1031) exchange, and what happens to the numbers when you sell. Personal advisory is where this starts.
-
The owner whose business has outgrown its setup
You started a business because you are good at what you do, and it worked. Somewhere between one and ten million dollars in revenue, the books, the payroll, and the entity you chose at the start stopped keeping up. The tax picture that made sense at a fraction of the size does not fit anymore. The fix is usually simpler than it looks from the inside.
What that usually involves. Whether an S corporation still fits, how you pay yourself, quarterly estimates that are not a guess, and books you can make decisions with. Business advisory is where this starts.
None of this needs you to be unhappy with how things stand. The next step is a conversation, to see whether a closer fit exists. The decision is yours.

Do you only work with these three kinds of clients?
No. These are the situations where LAS CPA's year-round approach makes the biggest difference. Individuals and families with simpler returns, and businesses of other kinds, are welcome too.
Where are your clients?
Our office is in Woodbridge, and our clients live and work across Prince William, Fairfax, Loudoun and Arlington counties and in Alexandria. Much of the work happens through the secure client portal, so distance within Northern Virginia rarely matters.
Someone I know fits one of these. What do I do?
Send them our welcome page or the introduction call link, or tell them to call 703-491-2794. If LAS CPA is not the right fit we will say so.
